The Opportunity:

This opening is in one of the reputed specialist tax teams in Brisbane, this role will be the key senior aligned with two Special Counsel and One Partner directly. It will caries the ability to mentor downwards whilst enjoying a strong specialist team environment with someone with depth of experience in this niche and changing space.

This team works in proximity and workflow with a multifaceted highly awarded Private Advisory group in relation to succession and high net wealth estates. The Tax team intersect and internally advise on transactional corporate acquisitions and disposals.

You will be exposed to high profile practitioners with deep backgrounds in private client taxation, transactional structuring, revenue authority engagement and tax litigation, whilst offering opportunity for increasing responsibility across matters and contributing to the development of junior team members.

The practice operates across both commercial and private wealth mandates. Its clients include businesses, high-net-worth individuals, family groups, accountants, financial planners and other professional advisers, creating a varied workflow that connects technical tax advice with broader commercial objectives.

The Role:

  • Providing technical and practical advice on income tax, capital gains tax, Division 7A, GST, duty, land tax and related revenue issues
  • Advising on business and share sales, acquisitions, restructures and pre-transaction structuring
  • Preparing objections to tax and penalty assessments issued by the ATO and state revenue authorities
  • Assisting clients through reviews, audits, negotiations, settlements and broader dispute resolution processes
  • Contributing to tax litigation and proceedings before relevant tribunals and courts
  • Preparing private ruling applications and advising on tax residency, trusts, small business CGT concessions and tax governance
  • Working on the commercial implementation of tax advice, including transaction documents and associated legal arrangements
  • Managing matters with increasing independence and maintaining direct relationships with clients and their professional advisers
  • Supporting and developing junior lawyers within the group

About You:

  • Whilst this designed for a new Senior in their first 2 years as a senior associate, the team is open to a robust associate in line for this promotion. 3–8 years’ PQE with established experience in taxation law
  • Bachelor of Laws, strong academics
  • Strong technical capability across federal tax, GST, state revenue or tax disputes
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex tax issues into practical advice
  • A collaborative approach and an interest in mentoring junior lawyers while developing your own leadership capacity
