Firm Focus:

The Firm’s Corporate Projects team is orientated heavily toward leading global mining entities, with a practice that can be broadly defined as 80% large-scale mining and 20% energy. 

Although corporate by legal discipline this sits within a reputed national projects group where you will intersect with construction, finance, and property seniors to deliver a superior project offering to clients.  The Firm’s flexible and hybrid workplace model supports individual growth, with the option for a four-day workweek for the right candidate.

Your Opportunity:

This role will suit an experienced lawyer who is passionate about the resources sector and thrives in leading complex development and expansion-based matters with a natural client-facing presence. You (including power stations), will be advising on significant international mining assets with a current emphasis on copper and lithium. Most recent delivery has included a lot of new mine development activity in Africa, namely Botswana and Zambia.

Your role will involve leading client interactions and negotiations and driving strategic outcomes for high-profile miners on the global stage. You will be engaged to manage key client relationships, drive joint ventures and transactions, and provide legal knowledge and insight into front-end documentation around procurement and rail logistics to secure efficient outcomes for your clients. The Firm values mindful and strong leadership of its valued junior lawyers. You will play a key role in this regard also.

The Role:

  • Lead client management and negotiations on complex mining and energy projects.
  • Advise on the development and expansion of mining assets, including greenfield and brownfield projects.
  • Provide strategic advice on procurement, logistics, joint ventures, and project transactions.
  • Collaborate with senior partners and contribute to high-profile projects, particularly focused on copper and lithium assets in Africa.
  • Mentor and guide junior lawyers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team.

Ideally, you will bring with you:

  • Bachelor of Laws with strong academic credentials.
  • Minimum of 6 years experience in front-end projects and contracts, with a focus on mining.
  • Ability to interact with stakeholders in terms of negotiations on complex resource projects.
  • Passionate about the resources sector, with a deep understanding of mining development projects
  • Four day week is available if this appeals
