The Opportunity
This will appeal to a Senior Commercial Litigator that enjoys the challenges of complex disputes as well as strategy input and team direction. This role is available due to attrition as a key Special Counsel is moving abroad. It will be one of two Special Counsels in a three-partner team; however, it will be a pivotal role and 2IC to the lead partner who is currently leading on two high profile matters in for two key clients in global technology and road operations. You will be a key contributor to all client interactions.
You will have a hands-on role in shaping the direction of the more junior team, ensuring that your insights are integrated into the practice’s strategic development. Mentor and develop junior lawyers, ensuring the strength and cohesion of the team as they handle significant litigation across the courts.

You will have strong connectivity with one Sydney Partner and a Senior Associate out of Melbourne on a regular basis inside an elaborate wider interactive Litigation group nationally. The Commercial Litigation team has earned industry recognition for delivering strong client resolutions, particularly in large-scale disputes. The team manages a wide range of high-stakes matters including competition class actions, corporate disputes, and professional negligence claims.

Within the firm, you will join a team structure made up of three partners, aligning mainly with a Partner who is renowned in Queensland for his involvement in some of the most significant class actions interests.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage high-value commercial disputes spanning tech, E&R and financial services
- Handle large-scale litigation, including competition class actions, corporate disputes, and professional negligence claims
- Drive client negotiations and lead discovery, trial preparation, and strategy for complex disputes
- Provide mentorship and leadership to junior lawyers, fostering a strong, high-performing team
- Engage with clients across energy, resources, mining, and regulatory sectors, delivering strategic advice tailored to their needs.
About You:
- Bachelor of Laws with strong academic credentials.
- Minimum of 6 years’ post-qualification experience in complex commercial litigation
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment
- Strategic thinker with a passion for resolving disputes and achieving client-focused outcomes
